Registration opens for the Kennedys

Guitar Workshop: Laying Down Tracks

Sunday, March 16th, 2008!  Northampton, MA

If you'd like to come, please email us at: kennedylst@aol.com

This workshop will take place, from 11 - 5pm in Northampton, MA, on Sunday, March 16, 2008.

Laying Down Tracks.

This workshop will focus on preparing to record a guitar part. We’ll cover the basic issues of tuning and playing in time with a click track or rhythm section, punching in parts to repair a track, playing your songs without singing aloud, and writing basic charts and giving verbal instructions to other musicians. We’ll also talk a bit about how to communicate with a recording engineer in their arcane lingo. Most importantly, we’ll help you develop guitar arrangements that “sound like a record”, a concept that can be very different from live performance. This will be a utilitarian, skill-developing workshop for instrumentalists and singer songwriters alike. Intermediate and above.

This day-long seminar will include two intensive 2 1/2-hour sessions, with a break to explore the cafes and shoppes of beautiful downtown Northampton, MA. Tuition is $120 for the full day. Enrollment is limited.  If interested, please email us at kennedylst@aol.com.

Pete Kennedy brings a fresh new perspective to the guitar.  Maura assists.

Bring a notebook, and a small tape deck, minidisc or whatever.

Oh yeah, a quick resume:

Besides performing with the Kennedys as producer and lead guitarist, Pete has worked as a professional musician for a couple of decades (never had another job, in fact). He's played on the road with Nanci Griffith (including the Grammy-winning "Other Voices, Other Rooms" cd), and Mary-Chapin Carpenter, and he's played in bands with a number of  instrumental greats including Danny Gatton, Mike Auldridge, Buddy Emmons, and jazz legend Charlie Byrd. He's played with acts ranging from bluesman SunnylandSlim to the National Symphony, and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, The Tonight Show, and lots of little clubs. His teachers include the legendary Joe Pass and Johnny Smith, as well as Larry Snitzler, a noted Segovia protege. He's received over fifty Wammie awards from the Washington Area Music Association, taught for five years at Ellsworth Studios, and he and Maura were Artists-in-Residence at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  Since our travel schedule doesn't permit us to give private lessons, this is a rare opportunity to talk guitar in an intimate and relaxed setting.
